What activities were you involved in during your time at Mason that impacted you?

I attended the Summer Russian Language immersion program at Middlebury College in 2022. It was an amazing opportunity to represent GMU as well as the Russian and Eurasian Studies program at a prestigious institution. I highly recommend that anyone who is a language major do their best to attend the summer program for your target language at Middlebury.

Did you have a favorite class or professor?

I loved every single Russian language class I took here at Mason. Professor Elena Guglielmi will always remain special to me because of how she influenced my life during my time at Mason. She has been incredibly influential during my language training here and I will always appreciate everything she has done for me and the program. I would also like to say thank you to Dr. Steven Barnes for guiding me throughout this process. I continue to be extremely inspired by his dedication to bringing attention to Russia's illegal and immoral invasion of Ukraine. Both of these professors are incredible human beings, and I am proud to have learned from both of them.

What is your most memorable moment at Mason?

Discussing the terrifying implications of Russia's invasion of Ukraine the day after it happened in my Russian Government and Politics class.

What is your next step? What are your future plans?

Truthfully, I don't know. I am very interested in continuing to improve my Russian language skills. I am searching for a career related to Russian affairs, whether it's in journalism, government, or other related fields. Graduate school is also an option.

As you are reflecting on your time at Mason, what is one piece of advice you would give a student who is just starting off on their Mason journey?

Take your time with classes and don't overload yourself. Don't be afraid to take on a small schedule, even if it means you're going to finish a little later. Treat school like it's your job. Take your schooling seriously and you'll do great things here.
